Patrol Division
Patrol is the largest division of the Ellensburg Police Department. The patrol division currently consists of seventeen commissioned officers. These officers are divided into four squads. Three of the four squads include a sergeant, a corporal and two patrol officers, with one of the three squads including a police service dog team. One squad includes a sergeant and three patrol officers due to one corporal being assigned as the Department School Resource Officer.

Officers on motors spent time at safety events and escort details. In addition to funeral escorts and leading the annual Ellensburg Rodeo Parade, the motors assisted traffic control for the first annual Northwest Ride of Dreams to support Special Olympics.
Newly commissioned reserve officers work with full-time officers to achieve proficiency in patrol duties. Each of our reserve officers is required to perform no less than 16 hours of volunteer time per month. The current monthly average per officer is 36 hours.
The Reserves serve in a mostly volunteer status and will begin working with full-time Officers. In the fall the Reserves will support the School Resource Officer and work in the schools.

Motors
The Motors Unit for the Ellensburg Police Department focuses on traffic safety in areas where patrol cars wouldn't be as effective. In 2014, officers spent over 500 hours on the motors enforcing school zone speeds and traffic laws on other major thoroughfares.Officers on motors spent time at safety events and escort details. School Resource Officer
The School Resource Officer (SRO) is a resource throughout the school system and performs the functions of a law enforcement officer, and law-related educator. SRO Robert Salinas is a member of the National Association of School Resource Officers. Ellensburg Reserve Officers will supplement the SRO at both Morgan Middle School and the Ellensburg High School.Reserve Officers
The Ellensburg Police Department re-established its Reserve Officer Program in the Spring of 2009. Reserve officers have had a long history with the Ellensburg Police Department. The SRO and Reserve Officer's responsibilities include
- Providing security for students and staff members during school hours and after school functions like sporting events and dances.
- Assisting visitors to the schools by ensuring they sign in and out.
- Traffic control while students and parents are coming to and from schools.
- Parking enforcement at the high school.
- Reporting any disciplinary issues observed to school administrators.
- Classroom educational presentations.
