Wildcat/University Way Safe Intersection Improvements Project

A road widening and sidewalk construction project will start June 10th and continue through August 28th. When complete, the project will include left turn lanes on University Way, a new ‘smart’ traffic signal (vehicle presence and bicycle detection), dedicated pedestrian crossing, realignment of Wildcat Way to Sprague Street, and LED street lighting.

What you can expect during construction:

  • The temporary closure of Sprague Street between University Way and 7th Avenue. This space will serve as an equipment, materials, and supplies staging area during construction.
  • Temporary lane reduction on University Way from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction.
  • No traffic signal at the intersection of University/Wildcat Way. Flaggers will direct traffic Monday – Friday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM starting June 24th. Crosswalk signals will not work after the existing signal is deactivated.
  • Local access only for vehicles driving on 7th Avenue between Anderson and Sprague Streets.  Sidewalks will also be closed on Sprague St from 7th Ave to University Way, on the south side of University Way from Ruby St to Anderson St, on the north side of University Way from Ruby Street to Wildcat Way, and on the west side of Wildcat Way from University Way north to the parking lot alley.
  • Construction workers present Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 AM to 5:30 PM until the project is complete.
