Ellensburg Announces Call For Artists

Reed Park

The City of Ellensburg is calling on artists to submit their work for consideration for a mural to be installed on the Craig’s Hill Water Reservoir, visible from the Kittitas Valley Event Center Rodeo Arena. The mural should represent the value of Ellensburg and the Rodeo as a gathering place to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the world-famous Ellensburg Rodeo on Labor Day Weekend in 2023.

“The mural will provide a unique opportunity for an artist to share a piece of Ellensburg’s story,” said Mayor Nancy Lillquist. “The Ellensburg Rodeo has been the major event for our community since 1923 and we’re excited to celebrate the 100-year anniversary.” The Ellensburg City Council approved the mural concept and project budget in January 2023.

The Request for Qualifications (RFQ) is open to muralists, artists, artist teams, or organizations, with a preference for local or regional artists. Three finalists will be invited to submit proposals for consideration. The mural installation is scheduled for completion by July 31, 2023.

Applicants must submit required qualifications, work samples, references, and a statement of interest in the project to the Ellensburg City Manager’s Office, citymanager@ellensburgwa.gov, by the March 31, 2023 deadline to be considered for the opportunity.
