The design and preliminary engineering phase of the Vantage/Pfenning Signalization Project is now complete. The City of Ellensburg will resume work in May and work completion is planned for July. Belsaas and Smith Construction, Inc. has been awarded the construction contract.
The proposed project will install a traffic signal at the intersection of Vantage Highway and Pfenning Road, install curb/gutter and sidewalks, street illumination and a storm drainage system.
The signal will be an eight phased signal, with phases dedicated to each through movement and allowing protected left hand turn movements on all approaches. The traffic signal will include vehicle detection, pedestrian push buttons and displays, and will be connected to the City’s existing traffic signal management system via connection to the existing fiber optics cable that currently passes through this intersection.
An overlay of existing asphalt within the project extent will also be performed. This will include required striping and signage in accordance with MUTCD guidelines. Existing water and sewer utilities at the intersection will be extended east and west from Pfenning Road with the street improvements.
