The Ellensburg Parks and Recreation Department provides an extensive range of programs and services for the community to enhance the lives of community members, residents, and visitors. The Parks and Recreation Department maintains and operates four indoor, year-round recreation facilities including a senior center, a municipal pool and fitness center, a youth and community center, as well as a racquet and recreation center.
The Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool and Fitness Center opening is open. For hours of operation, visit the Pool's website for detailed information.
The Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool and Fitness Center closed since Wednesday, April 27th after a portion of the east wall brick façade fell off the building. On May 2, 2016 the Ellensburg City Council declared the repair of the pool as an emergency, since that time City staff has been working with structural engineering firms to determine the cause of the brick failure and to develop a plan to reopen the building as soon as possible. The identified scope of work included removing all of the second story brick on the east and west sides of the main pool area and the brick around the east mechanical room. Lydig Construction, the selected contractor, entered into an agreement with the City of Ellensburg on June 7, 2016. Once preliminary repairs are completed, a second project scope will be developed to address the long term repairs, which will primarily consist of the installation of a permanent exterior finish.
